Everton face a home game against Italian outfit Fiorentina as they look to keep their European dream alive and overcome a two-goal deficit from the first leg. The Toffees were beaten and outplayed by a highly impressive Fiorentina side in the first-leg and the 2:0 defeat was the least they could have lost by. David Moyes knows that a much improved display is needed now and will call on his players to rise to the occasion and deliver a big performance. The team reacted to the defeat by earning a precious league victory as Sunderland lost 1:0 at home in the league courtesy of an Andrew Johnson strike. The forward is hopeful of keeping his starting slot after some impressive displays lately as the manager should stick with the 4-4-2 formation. He has some serious problems with injuries at the moment as Steven Pienaar is the latest to be struggling. The South African was on the end of a malicious Philip Bardsley tackle on Sunday and was limped off by the end of the game. He is now rated a doubt but the hopes are that he will recover in time. Leon Osman picked a thigh strain in the first leg and is also doubtful while Manuel Fernandes and Nuno Valente are still recovering from thigh and groin injuries and look unlikely to return. All these absences forced the manager to hand 16-year-old Jack Rodwell a debut on Sunday and he could well be on the bench again on Wednesday. Lee Carsley will be restored in midfield after missing out with domestic ban while Tim Cahill will move to the left side of midfield as a Pienaar replacement. Cahill, however, also picked a knock on Sunday and is rated a doubt even though he is more likely to start. Meanwhile, Anthony Gardner and James Vaughan are sidelined for the long term.
