Hapoel face a tricky match following a first leg loss... Full strength side expected although Vermouth (r)(mid) is a slight doubt... Following their first leg defeat at the hands of Saint-Étienne, Hapoel Tel Aviv’s chances of progressing in France look slim, however, a late strike from Mehran Lala has given the Israeli side just a glimmer of a chance. Although they are unbeaten in league play this season, Hapoel have only won once and have found problems finding the net. These were eased a little on Saturday when they defeated Petach-Tikva in their aforementioned victory. Goals for Eli Guttman’s side were scored by Yeboah, Zahavi and Telkiyski as they came from a 1-0 deficit to seal all three points. Hapoel really have had problems converting their dangerous play into goals, with two scoreless draws prime examples of their struggles. Changes to the Hapoel side that faced Saint-Étienne first time round remain unlikely as the Israeli’s remain unscathed through injury and suspension, despite starting their UEFA Cup campaign way back in July. Guttman has certainly dabbled with a 4-4-2 system in recent weeks and may be tempted to start Lala in conjunction with danger man Yeboah in attack. Much of the attacking threat in midfield comes from Bulgarian international Telkiyski and the youthful exuberance of Vermouth, who is a slight doubt. Abutbul should provide a more defensive presence. As with the midfield, a Bulgarian is crucial in defence. Elin Topuzakov has won high praise since signing for the club in January and remains a key facet to their side. Douglas Da Silva and Antebi should also start in Hapoel’s rearguard, which will be worked hard if they choose to attack from the off. In goal Vincent Enyeama is considered one of the top goalkeepers in the Israeli league. Hapoel will need to score twice in order to have any chance of progression.
