Coach Carlo Ancelotti is forced to make do without Zeljko Kalac, Alessandro Nesta - who was recently added to the UEFA Cup list despite a lengthy injury layoff, key man Kaka, the combative Gennaro Gattuso and ex-Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko through injury - Shevchenko's absence has been confirmed following a late medical, while Brazilian midfielder Emerson and striker Marco Boriello were both removed from the UEFA Cup squad list and will not feature in Europe again this season. Ronaldinho is in doubt after picking up an injury on the eve of this clash. Brazilian keeper Dida could step in between the posts in goal, with Gianluca Zambrotta potentially joining veteran Paolo Maldini, Daniele Bonera and Marek Jankulovski in defence in this match, although Kakha Kaladze may come in for Maldini at the back. In midfield David Beckham was named in the UEFA Cup squad despite the fact that this tie could be his only one in Europe for the club, with Beckham potentially joining playmaker Andrea Pirlo and Massimo Ambrosini across the centre of the park. Clarence Seedorf could play in behind strikers Alexandre Pato and Filippo Inzaghi. Milan are unbeaten in the UEFA Cup this season, but a clash with Werder Bremen represents a step up from the opposition they have encountered so far, and they could be in for a tough clash indeed when they make the trip to the north of Germany for this one.
