FC Copenhagen came from behind to beat Lens 2-1 after extra time. The Danes came to the game in good form as they top the Danish league and they had the advantage of an away goal as they had drawn 1-1 at Lens in the 1st leg. Lens quickly took the lead at Parken Stadium though and the Frenchmen succeeded in defending their lead till late in the 2nd half. The ordinary match finished 1-1 and in extra time the home side proved to be the strongest even though they had Gravgaard dismissed and Gronkjaer's spot kick 8 minutes from time meant that F Copenhagen will be in the hat for the UEFA Cup group draw.

The hosts did not have any injury concerns for this match. As usual when playing in Europe manager Solbakken only played with a single out and out striker in Allback and fielded winger Gronkjaer alongside the Swede. Surprisingly defensive midfielder Wurtz was placed on the bench with Silberbauer partnering Norregaard at central midfield. Lens manager Papin was still without defender Hilton but Bisevac and Akale had recovered from illness and started the game. Key striker Dindane started on the bench, as he did in the first leg, and this indicated that Papin was not desperate for his side to qualify for the next round.

FC Copenhagen dominated the first half but on one of their rare attacking moves Carriere beat Copenhagen keeper Christiansen with a header from a rebound. The home side missed several good chances. The biggest fell to Norregaard but he missed from 2 yards out with the goal at his mercy. After the break FC Copenhagen continued to press for the vital equalizer. Gronkjaer was sent clean through but he decided to pas the ball across goal and the chance went begging. The pressure on the visitors increased and FC Copenhagen were finally rewarded with 14 minutes left as Allback scored a tap in. In extra time Lens almost restored their lead but after collecting the rebound from a header on the post Lacourt somehow missed to hit the target. Shortly afterwards substitute Dindane was sent through on goal and Gravgaard had no choice but to foul the forward and he got sent off. Even with ten players the home side played their chance and they won the game as Gronkjaer scored from the penalty spot after Sionko seemed the dive in the area.

FC Copenhagen were clearly the better side in this game, but in extra time the game could have gone both ways as Lens could have gotten ahead before Gronkjaer's goal. Lens manager Papin's decision to start with a few regulars on the bench backfired as Lens now only has domestic competitions to concentrate on. FC Copenhagen will hope to recapture last season's form when they participated in the Champions League group stage and did well. They are only amongst the 4th seeded teams though and will probably face strong competition in their YEFA Cup group.
