Lech Poznan and Deportivo La Coruna played out a 1-1 draw as both sides need positive results in the final group fixtures to advance into the next phase of the UEFA Cup.

The Poles had a virtual full squad to pick from as they prepared to face the tough challenge of Deportivo La Coruna. The manager decided to go with a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation to try and get his side back into contention to qualify for the next stage of the competition. Depor had a mix of youth and experience as they mirrored the home side's formation. As expected Miguel Angel Lotina decided not to risk the almost fully fit Riki from the start as Miguel Mista continued to enjoy a mini run in the starting XI.

The match could not have started any worse for Lech as they found themselves one down in no time at all. The returning Diego Colotto was on hand to find the net after a decent corner by Guardado. This bonus start for the Galicians spurred them into action as the home side had no answer at all to the class and technique of the Spanish side. With a little over ten minutes to go until the break and Poznan finally decided to give the game a go. Stilic had a decent opportunity but was thwarted relatively comfortably by Aranzubia in the Depor goal. Then as the Spaniards seemed to be edging toward a half-time lead Lech Poznan netted an equaliser. The Peruvian, Rengifo took advantage of some slack marking to score. He almost made it two seconds before the interval but his superb strike hit the post as the half ended level.

Depor struggled as the second half kicked off. The Polish side were pressing the Galician side all over the pitch as they searched for their second goal. In a bizarre spell after the hour mark Daniel Aranzubia made a string of decent saves to keep the home side at bay. Miguel Angel Lotina decided to make a few changes as his side seemed incapable of producing anything remotely dangerous. The substitutions almost had the opposite effect as Lech almost nicked it in the last seconds. Stilic was unmarked in the area and could not manage to direct his header towards goal as the match ended all square.

Lech Poznan were without question the superior side as they created numerous opportunities to try and record a famous win over their Spanish opponents. Stilic had a glorious opportunity to give Lech all three points but in the end his side had to settle for a share of the spoils. Depor were disappointing and should have built upon their phenomenal start. On a positive note for Miguel Angel Lotina a number of players are returning to full fitness which should help the Galicians in their upcoming La Liga fixtures.
