Dinamo Moscow had a hugely underwhelming season last year as what was a pretty talented and decent squad never really punched above their weight and were far too timid and easy to play against. Slavisa Jokanovic oversaw all of that decline after the highs of the Sandro Schwarz era and certainly deserves quite a lot of the blame.
Now is a fresh start for Dynamo as they appointed Orenburg coach Marcel Licka as the new man in charge and will hope that the Czech has the same sort of impact as he had with the newcomers last season, making them one of the more watchable teams in the league.
The main task for Licka will be to make this talented Dynamo side a more fervent and powerful attacking unit that is harder to defend against, while the defence needs to do better as a whole after some truly awful performances at times last season.
The team's main talent and crown jewel, Arsem Zakharyan, seems finally set for a move away and he will be pretty much irreplaceable given his passing range and goal threat. There have been no arrivals yet but one assumes that, once that outgoing transfer is completed, Licka will be given some reinforcements.
He will look to unlock more out of what are decent forwards like Konstantin Tyukavin and Denis Makarov up front but more needed are additions at full-back and in midfield.
Thus, Dynamo are very much a work in progress and, while they should do better than last season, there are still far too many uncertainties.
