Hailed as a saviour when he bought the club in 2019, President Comisso has turned out to be a bit of a disappointment for Fiorentina supporters. In fact, despite his many promises, the team has been far from capable of a return to challenging in Serie A. Last season, Fiorentina flirted with relegation for some time and only managed to survive when coach Iachini was rehired after being sacked. Gratitude is rare in football and Iachini was not hired for the new season. After some uncertainty, the team was eventually entrusted into the hands of Italiano who did very well at Spezia. Knowing that the new coach plays a dynamic and spectacular style football, Fiorentina immediately shed players like Borja Valero, Caceres and star man Ribery. They also let go the likes of full-backs Malcuit and Barreca who rarely featured. In terms of new arrivals, Fiorentina made one of the most expensive signings of their history in Gonzalez. He is expected to provide goals and assists from the right wing with Sottil, returning from a mixed season at Cagliari, doing the same on the left. Fiorentina are still a work in progress as several players could still be leaving, in all departments. Milenkovic's and Pezzella's departures would leave Italiano with a weakened defence, whilst rising star Vlahovic's departure would fill their pockets with plenty of cash but would also leave them without a goal scorer who could help them avoid relegation. There is also a big hole in the middle of the park where Pulgar lacks the required personality and Amrabat the quality to act as play-maker.

Target

Fiorentina might have to be satisfied with a campaign centred around survival. If Milenkovic, Pezzella and Vlahovic quit without being properly replaced, they could face some hard times.
