Football Season Guide

Goiás had a regular season in 2021 and deserved the return to Série A. They had just 7 defeat all along the season, 4 of which came in just two weeks in September/October. Other than that, Goiás proved competitive, and grabbing the best defensive record together with champions Botafogo (31 goals conceded). The duo Bruno Pivetti and Paulo Autuori was brought in order to elevate Goiás’ level into a top flight, but they left after 1 month, as Autuori accepted an offer from Internacional and Pivetti left in the sequence. Therefore, it’s Gláuber Ramos back to the position. Gláuber brought Goiás to Série A and was having a decent run in 2022 before Pivetti was signed in. Goiás reached final of Campeonato Goianense, but lost it against their arch-rivals Atlético GO. Tadeu is one of the good goalkeepers in the country and will be having another chance at top flight to show his ability in goal and perhaps grab a contract with a stronger side. In defence, 32-years old Sidnei should be the leader, arriving to Brazil after a long career in Portugal and Spain. Danilo Barcelos is an experienced new signing for the left side. João Victor Caetano (belongs to Corinthians) is a good talent and will have his first chance at Série A, after a series of loan spells in lower divisions. Reynaldo was the leader of defence last season. The irascible Fellipe Bastos and the reliable Auremir should form the duo in midfield, as Diego will provide quality on the passing. Luan and Pedro Raúl are the biggest new signings and should be the stars of the team for 2022. The two should form a very decent attacking trio with winger Vinícius, also a signing for the new season. Aside from the two great forwards, Goiás didn’t add much quality to last season’s squad, which was competent but not impressive at Série B. Therefore, the team is expected to struggle this season at top flight. The departure of Pivetti and Autuori just a couple of weeks before the start of league season certainly didn’t help either.
