Inverness CT proved difficult to defeat last season, but too many draws meant they were never within touching distance of the eventual winners, Ross County. An appearance in the Scottish Cup semi-final also revealed how competitive they were last season. They reached the play-offs, but were exhausted after a hectic schedule and made little impact. It’s always difficult for Inverness to attract players to the Highland capital and few signings have been made. James Keatings arrives and is a natural scorer but he has been unsettled or injured for several seasons. Nikolai Toderov is another striker but, despite promise, he’s yet to make a significant breakthrough. Inverness will severely miss the promptings of quality midfielders Liam Polworth and Joe Chalmers. Finances are tight at Inverness and, with a thin squad, they will struggle to repeat the form of last season. A title challenge seems unlikely, but another inclusion in the play-offs is possible. Inverness should be solid at the back again with Coll Donaldson, Brad McKay and Jamie McCart all retained for this season. A lack of depth in their squad is an obvious weakness. A few injuries could easily ruin their season as there isn’t any money to draft in replacements. The fitness of new striker James Keatings will always be a worry.

Target

The play-offs. Given their financial circumstances, a top four finish would be deemed a successful season.
