Football Season Guide

2023 was a relatively poor season domestically for Kawasaki that was made up by cup success. They finished 8th which was their worse league finish in over a decade. Injuries at the start of the season to key players including Damiao, Marchino and Jesiel meant the team struggled from the go. In the Asian Champions league and domestic cup, the club did v well. They finished the group stages of the ACL unbeaten and play in the knock out rounds at the start of 2024. They also finished the season excellently, winning the Emperors cup meaning they qualified for ACL despite their poor league finish. The transfer window saw a much needed striker in Erison come in. There was also improvement in the midfield with players such as Yamamoto and Ze Roberto adding much needed depth and quality. The team also were able to offload squad players such as Schmidt and Miyashiro. Right back Yamane was their most significant loss and though they brought in Sai as a replacement, its unclear if he is of the same quality. Overall the squad looks more balanced than last year and a lot will depend on how the new signings adapt to their new side.
