Football Season Guide

Lincoln will be targeting a more serious presence in the upper end of the table in the coming season as the Imps finally plot a serious play-off charge. They have spent the last three seasons mostly in the lower reaches of the table and this is plain inexcusable for one of the bigger clubs at this level. Gary Simpson managed to finally turn the negative momentum in the second half of last season and Lincoln played some good football in the closing months of the campaign, easily shrugging off any relegation concerns and finishing comfortably in mid-table. The expectations of the fans are of something bigger and the experienced manager will definitely be trying his best to make Lincoln a more effective and overall better side in the coming campaign. The funds are still limited at the troubled club but the manager made some astute signings over the close season and there is a bit more depth to the squad. Karl Ledsham is a decent midfielder who will bring drive and goals while Tony Diagne is a solid defender who knows his way around the league. Moreover, Hamza Bencherif has returned to the club and he has both experience, good ball control and an eye for goal. Ben Tomlinson was the bigger provider of goals last season but he will have alternatives this time around with Sahr Kabba and Jordan Burrow signed as well. On the other hand, none of the key players in the squad have been snapped up yet and Simpson has some base to build upon. That makes the fans quietly optimistic about the upcoming campaign and there are indeed signs that Lincoln will ruffle more feathers this year. That said, the manager still priorities too abrasive a style over any quality football and that could be a hindrance in the search of a top place.
