Football Season Guide

Luton Town once again begin the new season touted as the big favourites for promotion and the side that has the title to lose. However, unlike previous seasons, the Hatters are not really going all out for it and bringing in the star signings from previous years. Instead, hugely experienced boss John Still is working towards building an effective and solid side that has both flair and muscle and is most importantly a balanced one. Still was appointed in March last season, already with a view to the upcoming campaign, in order to have a proper look at the squad and decide who he needs and who he does not. By that time, promotion was already out of the question after a terrible run of results in January and February. And one has to stay that the transfer campaign looks well-thought and served the aim of creating a side that at least has the capacity to challenge. Luke Guttridge, formerly of Northampton and Aldershot, is a player of upper League Two quality and will definitely help the team boss games from midfield over the course of the season. Shaun Whalley was picked up from Southport and is one of the most incisive and unpredictable wingers in the division. Mark Cullen is a smart and tricky striker who was a big prospect at Hull a few years ago and can definitely score bags of goals in this division. When these new signings are added to the already present Ronnie Henry, Jim McNulty and Alex Lawless, the Hatters definitely look an ominous team. Yet, they boasted star-filled squads in previous seasons too only to malfunction badly. Still will be aiming to bring harmony and the get this going as early as possible. They face massive pressure and expectations along with the fierce competition but Luton look well equipped for the title and have the most complete package of resources, squad and manager in place to be considered once again as the team to beat in the league.
