Mixed campaign saw a relatively disappointing 8th placed finish after 2 long winless runs. Manager Robinson departed at the turn of the year after a dreadful spell and his replacement Alexander massively improved the team, keeping them well clear of relegation, thanks to some solid recruitment and astute tactical changes. New manager Alexander now comes into first season in charge, and has struggled to recruit well in the off season, stating he still needs 5 more players for his squad. Kelly and Slattery are particularly impressive signings, but centre back replacements are still needed. New strikers have been brought in from lower English leagues, but the team have struggled to find experienced forwards and will be relying on prospects. Van Veen is the pick of the bunch. Pre-season has been mixed, including a disappointing derby defeat to lower league Airdireonians, though they did top their League Cup group while bedding in new signings. Forward line an area of concern. Last season’s key scorer, Devante Cole, has now departed, leaving the club with limited goalscoring pedigree. Highest average scorer from last season is now Tony Watt who scored on average around 1 in 6 games. Some new players lack experience at professional level and could take time to bed in. Some important players like Gallagher have departed, leaving squad short in some central positions. Potential international signings could arrive imminently, but lacked a pre-season to adjust.

Target

European qualification. With an expanded number of European spots, Motherwell's 1st aim will be to break into Conference League qualifying. Difficult recruitment may make that difficult in practice.
