Football Season Guide

Peterborough are coming from another season of disappointment, as they played outstanding attacking football at times but were far too inconsistent during the campaign as a whole and once again missed out on a play-off place. The Posh parted ways with Grant McCann late in the season and appointed Steve Evans. Their new manager has failed to get them into the top six, but has now had the summer to make the squad his own and will be tasked with getting Peterborough back to the Championship. The Posh were unable to keep hold of the likes of Leo Da Silva and Gwion Edwards, who have both joined Championship clubs, while several other regulars have left in Jack Baldwin, Andrew Hughes, Steven Taylor and Jonathan Bond. Marcus Maddison is still at the club, but, as was to be expected, the Posh lost their battle to keep hold of last season's League One top scorer Jack Marriott, who has joined Derby. The Posh have brought in as many as fifteen players over a summer, with the list of arrivals being a mix of proven League One players and players from abroad and the lower leagues. Peterborough have quite a history of unearthing gems from the lower divisions and will be hoping to strike gold again with some of the new signings. What is important to note is that all of the managers Peterborough have had in their recent history like to play all-out-attacking football, but Evans has a more conservative approach. The Posh seem to have decided to go for pragmatism over style this time around and Evans experience will make them feel confident of improving on their last season's results.
