2023/24 was something of a rollercoaster campaign for Preston. Ryan Lowe orchestrated their best start to a season since 1903 with six wins and two draws, but drastic dip in form left him on the brink of being sacked around the turn of the year. The manager did well to not only survive, but take the Lilywhites back into contention for the play-offs. Injuries eventually caught up with PNE and they collapsed alarmingly with five straight defeats to end the season. Lowe will remain at the helm despite a continued scepticism from some supporters over his style of play, with Preston failing to score in sixteen of their league games last season. The manager often angered and clashed with his own fans through the media so he will likely need another good start to this campaign in order to keep them onside. North End have endured a couple of significant departures in the transfer market already. Influential captain Alan Browne is a huge loss both on and off the pitch after over a decade at the club. Canadian winger Liam Millar was scintillating at times last season but has returned to his parent-club Basel. Iceland international Stefán Teitur Þórðarson has arrived to help fill the void left by Browne in midfield, whilst Sam Greenwood appears to be the replacement for Millar out wide. The Leeds forward arrives on loan after a hit and miss spell at Middlesbrough last season. Preston will need to do a lot more business if they are to improve on last season’s efforts.

Target

The play-offs is the dream, but will be difficult to achieve with the current squad as it is.
