It is the start of a new era for Queen’s Park, who begin their first ever season as a professional club. It was back in November 2019 that the Club opted to end their 152-year amateur status and join the rest of the league in paying players. The Spiders have lost several talented youngsters for nothing in recent years, most notably Liverpool and Scotland international Andy Robertson. The change in status will also see them play their last season at Hampden Park before moving to a revamped Lesser Hampden. The sense of revolution is mirrored on the pitch with Ray McKinnon having taken over from Mark Roberts, with the side having been treading water. McKinnon made a whole host of changes to his squad before the cancellation of the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He has continued with almost the whole squad being allowed to leave during the summer. Having opted for a rebuild, several players with experience at higher levels have arrived in Glasgow. The standout capture is without a doubt Simon Murray, who joins following an injury-hit spell with South African club Bidvest Wits. Murray’s last spell in League 2 saw him bag 24 goals for Champions Arbroath and he will be looking to fill his boots once again. The midfield duo of Grant Gillespie and Louis Longridge are also impressive signings and should stand-out in League 2. Having embraced professionalism, the Spiders will be aiming high this season and if the new side can gel quickly, they will be in the hunt for the title.

Target

Champions. There is a clear statement of intent at Queens Park and they will be looking for promotion under the experienced McKinnon.
