Football Season Guide

After a major overhaul in mid-season that saw some experience brought into the squad, Rovers finished in 7th place. It was really a season of two halves. The first was a disaster with 9 defeats in the opening 12 matches, but they closed the season with 5 wins in 10 matches and well clear of relegation trouble. Over the summer they have picked up several experienced players from rivals Stirling Albion including Declan Byrne, Cammy Binnie, Scott Roberts, David Wilson and Aldin El-Zubaidi. Experienced defender James McGowan has made his loan from Troon permanent. Promising midfielder Charlie Reilly brings some youthful energy from Partick Thistle. Last season’s top scorer, Matty Aitken, has left for League Two rivals Forfar Athletic, along with several other forwards. Rovers depended on loan signings in the second half of last season and defenders Ecrepont, Kidd, Gallacher and Sideserf will all be missed after returning to their clubs. Rovers struggled at the start of last season because they had too many youthful talents that lacked experience. Once some experience was brought in they settled down and picked up points. They still have a lot of experience in their squad but no obvious scorer. The defence will also need rebuilt after the summer departures.
