Brentford are coming from a season in which they missed out on promotion in the cruelest way imaginable, as a 95th minute penalty miss by Fulham loanee Marcello Trotta cost them direct promotion, and they then fell to a defeat in the Play-off final against Yeovil. Manager Uwe Rosler was, understandably, distraught following the Wembley defeat, but he also remained defiant and stated that it will be a busy summer, as he has unfinished business with the Bees. He stayed true to his word, as Brentford have brought in a number of new players and look considerably stronger than they were last season. The only player of any note that left is Harry Forrester, who had moments of brilliance, but was unable to hold down a regular first team spot last season, while the most eye-catching signings are Walsall top scorer Will Grigg, Swindon captain Alan McCormack, and Villareal veteran full-back Javi Venta. Brentford's two main weaknesses last season were the lack of an alternate source of goals during Clayton Donaldson's dry spells and a lack of squad depth, and both of these problems seem to have been solved by the arrival of Grigg and the sheer number of players that joined the club. All in all, Brentford have a well balanced squad, and their fans will definitely have high expectations going into the new season.

Target

They will be looking to make a step forward compared to last season and win direct promotion. They seem better equipped to achieve this than any of the sides that were in League One last season, but the newly relegated sides all look like they mean business and look to be the biggest threat to their ambitions.
