Football Season Guide

Coventry are coming from a hugely disappointing season, which saw them look like strong direct promotion candidates in the first half of the campaign, but eventually failing to even make the play-offs. Their form in the current calender year has been very poor, and Tony Mowbray now has the difficult job of stopping his side's decline and getting their momentum back, as the goal that will be set going into the new season will be for the Sky Blues to do something that they have not done in 46 years and finish inside the top six. The list of summer transfers will make a depressing reading for their fans, as the Sky Blues have lost three very important on-loan players in Adam Armstrong, Jacob Murphy and James Maddison, while important midfielders Romain Vincelot and John Fleck have both also left the club. This basically means that Coventry have lost five of their last season's regular front six. A number of fringe players have also left, while the list of arrivals includes only three new names in Marvin Sordell, Kwame Thomas and Kyel Reid, who are all decent players on their day, but it is a big question if they can properly replace those who have left. There have been rumours that Coventry will once again be looking to utilize the loan market heavily as well as that there is a chance that Armstrong could join on another loan. They will certainly need to dip into the loan market if they are to fight for promotion as, without further reinforcements, they do not seem to have the quality required to do that.
