A season of consolidation was just what Cowdenbeath needed after four consecutive seasons of struggle. Back-to-back relegations were followed by back-to-back bottom of the table finishes and the Blue Brazil twice had to win the League 2 play-off to secure their cherished Football League status. The Fife club finally made the right appointment in Gary Bollan and his managerial experience saw the side avoid any relegation battle and even briefly flirt with the play-offs. The team was built around a strong spine which included goalkeeper David McGurn, defender Fraser Mullen, midfielders Kyle Miller and Robbie Buchanan and striker David Cox. Only McGurn hasn’t been retained this summer and it should give Bollan something to build on for the new season. Another positive is striker Jordan Allan’s decision to sign on again having enjoyed a productive second half to last season. The pending departures of midfielders Blair Malcolm and Gary Fraser would be a blow but Bollan has already been busy in the transfer market with the additions of midfielders Archie Thomas and Graham Taylor. Kevin Dąbrowski will fill the gloves left by McGurn having joined on a season-long loan from Hibernian and the Blue Brazil look in good shape heading into the new campaign.

Target

Play-offs. Having steadied the ship, Bollan has strengthened his squad and will be looking for them to kick on this season.
