Djurgardens were again heavily involved in the title race in 2022, but again they fell short and finished in 2nd place. Home form deserted them in the run-in as a long season caught up with them. They enjoyed a successful European campaign and coped well with many midweek fixtures. However, it caught up with them at the end of the season. Notable departures are central defender Ekdal to Burnley and midfielder Banda to HNK Rijeka. Goalkeeper Vasyutin has returned to Zenit while out of favour striker Holmberg has gone to Malta with Hamrun Spartans. Coming back is popular goalkeeper Tommi Vaiho after a loan spell at Sirius. Experienced striker Berg joins from Kalmar after 9 goals last season with Bergstrom bringing further attacking options and his 9 goals for Mjallby last season. Gracia and Odhiambo strengthen their defence while Odefalk and Bergvall bring youthful energy to midfield after a successful time at newly promoted Brommapokjarna. Is Djurgardens’ squad big enough to cope with both European and domestic football this season? Europe is a money earner, but as was seen last season it can hamper a league campaign. They have recruited well and must have learned some lessons from last season. Another title challenge is fully expected.

Target

After several seasons of coming close, the title and nothing less will suffice.
