Mjallby enjoyed a trouble-free 2022. Solid start to the season secured safety by mid-August. From that point on the team cruised and despite the decline in form they still finished 9th in what was a quiet year. The big drama was that coach Andreas Brännström, in charge only since January 2022, announced as early as September that at the end of the season he is leaving to take charge of a larger club. In the off-season Anders Torstensson was given the job as the new head coach. He’s been at Mjallby for a decade at various positions, but has very limited experience as a head coach and 2023 will be his first ever as a permanent one. At least he knows the players and the club very well. Mjallby saw many of their important loanees returning to their parent clubs in the winter too. Goalkeeper Brolin, centre-back Haliti and playmaker Al-Ammari were all important players last season that will be missed. The team’s best centre-back Moros also left. This explains why Mjallby added 4 new centre-backs to their ranks. They also extended Eile’s loan for another year and he will be crucial figure for them in defence. Not many other important signings have been made so far. However, knowing Mjallby they might loan in a bunch of quality players from the top teams near the end of the transfer window in late April. Teenager Nwankwo turned 19 in the off-season and decided to stay another year despite offers from various places. He had a breakthrough 2022 and it seems a regular starting role for him under the new manager is all but guaranteed. Yet to be seen if at such a young age he could score enough goals.

Target

Mid-table comfort is the goal. Have the squad to survive, but another top 10 finish will be hard.
