Doncaster's goal going into the new season is to win promotion and make their first step towards stop being a yo-yo club, as the upcoming season will be their season season in League One in three years. The Rovers opted to give their manager Paul Dickov another chance to prove himself despite getting relegated in his only season in charge of the club. It is clear that the upcoming season could have a major effect on the Dickov's future managerial career, as he could struggle to find new work in League One if he fails to win the Rovers promotion, as his only other managerial spell, at Oldham, ended in failure. Naturally, Doncaster's relegation sparked an exodus of their better players, as Dave Cotterill and James Husband, two of the heroes of their promotion in 2012/13, left the club, as did highly-rated winger Mark Duffy, striker Chris Brown and defender Gabriel Tamas. Dickov spent a lot of time during the summer transfer window identifying his targets, and only recently came to life in the summer transfer market. He signed the likes of Cedric Evina, Curtis Main, Reece Wabara and Jed Steer in a short space of time. The quartet might need time to get with the rest of the squad, but all these signings look very good on paper, as they are all proven at League One level. Despite losing some of their best players, the Rovers still have plenty of class among their ranks, as the likes of Rob Jones, Dean Furman, Harry Forrester and Theo Robinson are still at the club. If the new signings gel nicely, the Rovers will feel that they have every chance of fighting for promotion.

Target

Despite all the changes they had over the summer, their squad is still strong, and they will be hoping for a swift return to the Championship. On paper, they seem to be among the best seven or eight teams in the division, and we will have to wait and see whether they will fulfill their potential.
