Football Season Guide

Braunschweig returned to the second-tier at the first time of asking last season, gaining promotion from Liga 3. They managed to get up automatically in second spot after a late collapse from challengers Kaiserslautern. Under the guidance of coach Michael Schiele, Braunschweig will look to have learned from their previous appearance in the division back in 2020/21. Keeping the core of their squad and adding more quality was likely to be the first thing on the agenda. In regards to keeping the squad together, it doesn’t look too bad for Braunschweig. Attacking midfielder Martin Kobylanski has moved on but hot prospect Immanuel Pherai is an exciting replacement and could shine. Left-back Lasse Schluter has also left but Anton Donkor should be an adequate replacement. The weakness could be going forward, where attackers Ihorst, Lauberbach, and Girth are all relatively unproven at this level. Fabio Kaufmann is a good addition on the right-wing but is unlikely to make too much of a contribution on the goal front. Defensively Braunschweig looks in good shape, this could be a strength, as well as their overall pressing game which Schiele is likely to adapt. Behrendt and Schulz are a solid partnership in central defence, with the addition of new boy Decarli as a backup.
