Heidenheim had another trouble-free campaign last year and the club was one of the few in Second Tier that didn’t make a managerial change. Frank Schmidt continues to lead the squad and under his expert guidance Heidenheim have been making serious progress over the past three years. His staying was one of the conditions for the hugely important captain Schnatterer to stay too and after having a relatively average last year the team’s leading goalscorer and assist provider in the entire history of the club is expected to be much more influential this term. The main goalkeeper and one of the bright young attacking talents Leipertz left, but the coach secured the services of three strikers already and also it was his decision that Kevin Muller will be the new starter between the posts into the new season. Apart from that all other departed players were insignificant and at least on paper Heidenheim look stronger team than last year. The scoring record struggled at times before but now the fierce competition between six forwards is expected to see the team doing much better in attack. Thomalla made his move permanent and he is likely to lead the attack together with Finne, although all of Verhoek, Morabit and Kleindienst might have something to say about that. Spoiled for choice in attack and with midfield and defence that have been pretty much the same for the past two seasons Heidenheim definitely have enough in themselves to achieve another trouble-free campaign.

Target

Top half finish is the goal and Heidenheim definitely have all the elements needed to achieve that. The mid-table position looks guaranteed.
