FC Seoul surprised many in 2019 by finishing in third place. That said the team was way behind the top 2 and managed to win just 4 of their last 20 league games of 2019, with the high finish achieved mainly thanks to strong start to the campaign. Still after very poor 2018 the displays from last season had given reasons for optimism, with this being coach Yong-su Choi’s first full campaign in charge after being appointed only in late 2018. Coach Choi uses exclusively 3-5-2 formation and he is set to continue with this shape as it worked well for him in 2019. The 2 main departures during the off-season were that of key playmaker Myung-joo Lee and of long-serving captain and club legend Dae-sung Ha. Also the gaffer is worried about the situation with his star striker Aleksandar Pesic, who sees his 18-month loan spell at the club expiring at the end of June and further negotiations will be needed if he is to stay. Seoul reinforced well though. The signing of experienced Brazilian striker Adriano and solid inner midfield Seung-kyu Han from champions Jeonbuk are seen as great moves. Choi also strengthened the left wing-back area where there were some issues in 2019. In general the depth of the team looks even better compared to last season. Still if Pesic leaves at the end of June issues in attack might transpire if relatively young Dong-jin Park and 35-year-old veteran Chu-young Park fail to have the same impact as they offered last term. Spanish veteran Osmar usually starts as part of the back 3 in most games, but if there is need he can easily move to play in his natural role from before last season as holding midfielder. No matter where he plays Osmar is crucial for Seoul as he brings vast experience and great leadership when on the pitch.

Target

Aiming at another top 3 finish, but it will be heard. A lot will depend on if Pesic will stay in the squad past June. If he leaves and no quality replacement arrives the more likely finish will be between 4-6 place.
