Football Season Guide

Sion have had an extremely difficult season, as they went through different managers over the course of the campaign (not counting the caretaker ones) and barely managed to avoid relegation. Despite guiding them to survival, Paolo Tramezzani will not be staying on as their manager - he will take a different role at the club, while the Sitteners have opted to bring in Fabio Grosso. A starter for the Italy 2006 World Cup winning side, Grosso has limited managerial experience that saw him manage sides such as Bari, Verona and Brescia and this will be his first venture into Swiss football. The Sitteners have seen some of their most regular and talented leave over the short break, such as Quentin Maceiras, Ermir Lenjani, Pajtim Kasami and Bastien Toma. Moreover, no "real" signings have been made so far, as all of the additions to their squad are actually men coming back from loan. We will see whether new signings will be made in the coming days and weeks, but what seems clear is that the Sitteners' squad is weaker than it was last season at the moment. There are therefore a lot of question marks over Sion. They have a squad weaker than one that barely stayed up last season and are led by a manager with no experience in Swiss football. They always aim for European places, but it would not be hard to see them have a very tough campaign if things do not fall into place.
