Coming off an extremely forgettable season, they only managed to make the top 10 of the Serie A, a long way from the European spots, Lazio were expected to undergo a major overhaul over the summer but they actually made it just in part. In fact, when it comes to the man at the helm, the management actually signed a renowned and ambitious coach like Marcelo Bielsa but the deal fell through once the Argentinean found out that President Lotito is not so keen on spending lots of money for new players. Thus, Simone Inzaghi, who had replaced Pioli towards the end of the past campaign, will still be in charge. Several protagonists of the recent Lazio history left over the summer. Among them, Konko and, most remarkably, Klose and Mauri were all released while Candreva and Onazi were sold for heavy cash. The past campaign had been characterized by an incredible amount of injuries especially in defence and, for such reason, Lukaku, a left-back, and Wallace, a centre-back, were signed. They seem likely to make it straight to the starting eleven in a back four, together with De Vrij, who looks like a new signing as he is expected back after a long-lasting injury. Apart from them, Immobile is the sole other major signing and he is going to lead the attack alongside Felipe Anderson and Keita. Provided that Keita, who is at odds with the club, remains. If not, Djordjevic will be given more playing time. As Marchetti is also longing for a move elsewhere, the Eagles are still subject to some change in the next weeks.

Target

Lazio aim at making it back to the European spots but they might end up with a mere top 10 finish. However, Inzaghi’s lack of experience and further departures, if not properly dealt with, could lead to a downsizing of their ambitions. A quiet safety, that is. Felipe Anderson could also make the difference both in a positive or negative fashion, as occurred in the past two campaigns.
