Last season was a weird one for Aves. While they struggled to avoid relegation, at the same time Aves had their brightest moment of their history by adding the first ever big title to their record, as they won the very honourable Taça de Portugal, beating the Portuguese giants Sporting in the final. There was an unusual heavy investment in the newly promoted Aves, last season, with lots of known names being signed, like Paulo Machado, Vítor Gomes, Agra, Derley or Ryan Gauld. The investment saw very little return, though, as Aves was very disappointing in the first half of the season. With the exception of a good sequence of five unbeaten games around February, Aves kept struggling and only managed to confirm their presence in top flight on 2018-19 in the 33rd round, with a remarkable away win against rivals Moreirense: 3-0. Everyone knows that the Cup title is a once in a lifetime achievement, so there will be no expectations for anything like that, this season, even if there will be a chance for another title right in the beginning of the season, as Aves will play the newly crowned Portuguese Champions for the Supertaça title. This season, the investment was way more modest than last year, which, ironically, can provide some healthier environment in the team, as expectations won’t be so high. Some important names like Alexandre Guedes, Facchini or Paulo Machado left the club, but honestly, the core of the team was kept, with the likes of Vítor Gomes, Falcão, Nildo and last season’s starman Amilton, as well as the whole back-four being hold to help Aves having a steadier season than the last one. On the goal, Facchini’s succession has been taken care, with the club signing with two significant names: former Palmeiras keeper Fábio Szymonek and French Quentin Beunardeau will be fighting for the place, with Marco Pinto running as an option as well, after returning from loan.

Target

Avoiding relegation, desirably with several weeks of advance, will definitely be Aves’ goal for the upcoming season.
