Rosenborg start the season as the massive favourites for the league title yet again. They are on the hunt for a third league title in a row and it is hard to shake the feeling that they will be very hard to beat. There is just not much competition at the top end of the table and the Black and Whites have progressed too much in the past couple of years, pulling clear of the likes of Molde and Strømsgodset, who used to challenge them a lot more a few years ago. The Trondheim side marched towards the title last season without really encountering any serious problems and did not really need to stretch themselves on too many occasions during the campaign. The goals of Christian Gytkjær were the highlight of their season last year while players like Jonas Svensson and Frederik Midtsjø enjoyed excellent campaigns as well. Rosenborg have sought to strengthen the competition for places in the squad for the forthcoming season as their main aim is progressed into the Champions League group stages. Yet they did lose some important players over the close season, with Gytkjær moving to Munich 1860 and Svensson joining Dutch side AZ. The main new signing is undoubtedly that of the controversial former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner. He has seen his career nosedive in recent years but he is undoubtedly a talented player that has the ability to terrorise the defences in the Tippeligaen. The main question with him is primarily whether his attitude will be good and whether he will maintain his fitness. Kåre Ingebrigtsen is banking on the Dane keeping his attitude and discipline as the other options in attack are certainly not too confidence-inspiring. The other new edition who is expected to become a regular is Vegar Eggen Hedenstad, coming from German side St Pauli. He has good experience from playing in Germany for the past four and a half years and should offer steady presence at the back. Yet the feeling remains that this is not really a very good Rosenborg side, with their star man Pål Andre Helland reportedly struggling for form and fitness during the close season, and they are unlikely to pull any trees in Europe this campaign too. As for the domestic league, it is Rosenborg's title to lose and only an extraordinary campaign from some of the other sides below them will make it a challenge for them to retain the trophy.

Target

Clearly the best side in the league and it will be a major surprise if they do not win the title.
