At last, Basaksehir have clinched the 1st Super League title in their club history after missing it in the late fixtures more than once. They could have lost it, had not it been for Trabzon’s late poor performances. Besides that, it was also their 40-point great home performance that enabled them to triumph in the end. This time, Edin Visca’s great performances, supported by Crivelli and Demba Ba’s goals, allowed Basaksehir to win the title and to progress in Europe. After closing the group J at the top in front of Roma and Gladbach, they eliminated Sporting CP, but then they were out of concentration in the return leg against Copenhagen, which was played after the 5-month pandemic break. In the summer, they managed to save the main structure of their squad, but they have failed to make any relevant new signings so far except for bringing Hasan Ali Kaldirim in and adding Berkay Ozcan on a permanent deal. The backline and the attack have some ageing players like Skrtel, Epureanu, Demba Ba. Moreover, they have also seen the departures of Robinho, Elia and Gokhan. Considering the age average of the current squad and the busy schedule including the CL’s group stage, coach Okan Buruk should bring more fresh players in order to have depth in the squad. Following last season’s success, the pressure will be on them to defend their title and to reach the next knockout stage in CL.

Target

Despite a more difficult schedule, the top two should be their target. A good run in Europe and a win in the Turkish Cup are also on their agenda.
