Football Season Guide

Beerschot had an ultimately excellent season last year as they made a stunning start and for a while led the table before levelling out once Hernan Loads departed for the USA mid-season. Will Still did a decent job taking over from him but the narrow failure to make the play-offs left a sense of disappointment. Still has been relieved of his duties since the end of the season and now a more experienced coach in Peter Maes takes over for the forthcoming campaign, aiming to bring more substance and build a better squad after the ups and downs from last year. The main order of business for Maes is keeping hold of main man Raphael Holzhauser, who basically carried the Purple and Whites on his shoulders for most of the campaign. New additions have been scarce so far and none of them look like players that will immediately improve the starting 11. Beerschot need more depth in defence and especially attack, where Marius Noubissi and Musashi Suzuki mustered just ten goals combined last season. There is certainly more business to be done for Beerschot ahead of the new season but it feels like it could be a challenging second season in the top tier for the Antwerp-based club as they aim to grow and cope with the challenges of being treated as more than just a newcomer and an underdog.
