Brighton secured 51 points last season, this being their highest tally ever in a Premier League campaign alongside their highest ever finish in the table (9th). Being one of the most entertaining mid-table teams to watch, Brighton could have finished higher had they managed to find solutions on their long-standing problems in the final third. Yves Bissouma departed to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, but Brighton already knew that they wouldn’t be able to keep the talented midfielder for another season. Despite losing one of their key assets, Brighton haven’t been very active in the summer transfer window so far. They have signed just a couple of young forwards and it remains to be seen if they will try to find a replacement for Bissouma. Since securing Premier League promotion, Graham Potter’s side has earned the admiration of many neutral fans and rival coaches due to their entertaining style of play. Potter is expected to insist on a back-three, which gives his full-backs freedom to push forwards and create danger in front of the opposition goal. Brighton possess a very solid backline and they’ve managed to keep hold of all their defenders for the time being. Their solidity at the back is their main virtue, as just five teams conceded fewer goals than Brighton last season. However, they haven’t found a solution on their issues in attack, this being their main weakness. Only four teams scored fewer goals than Brighton last season, with Potter’s finishing with the fourth-worst shot conversion rate in the league.
