Ended last season just above relegation zone, but spent a few rounds on more comfortable places. Cearenses did a better job than expected, but some nervous ending rounds almost made the team jeopardise the previous decent work. New manager for the season is Guto Ferreira, an inconsistent gaffer with no particular style. Guto likes to adapt to each team's needs, but usually plays a "pragmatic" game, usually setting his teams to battling games. His last season in Série B with Sport Recife was highly praised, though. Ceará didn't move much for this season, which usually is a good thing in Brazilian League context. Vovô lost their most talented attacking player of last season, attacking midfielder Thiago Galhardo, but not much more. Not many arrived either, but the picks seemed well thought. Tiago is a quality centre-half, and Sóbis should provide goalscoring skills despite his advanced age. Luiz Otávio should remain the strongest unit on the side, forming a solid back four with Xavier and new signings Tiago and Pacheco. The midfield is not high in flair but possesses many very competent and consistent players. Playing at home is usually a strength for Vovô due to their devoted fanbase. One wonders what will this post-Covid football reality bring to the Nordestinos.

Target

The team will obviously be expected to be involved with relegation. However, they seem better equipped to stay at the top flight than many of their direct rivals.
