Deep financial problems led the team to difficult times in the last years (including a relegation to Série B). The experienced and controversial Wanderlei Luxemburgo restored some confidence during last season, and showed that there was some hidden quality in the existing squad, leading the team to a good second half of campaign. Coach for the season will be the unknown Ramon Menezes. The former assistant manager for the club replaces the outdated Abel Braga after a bad performance in regional league. It's hard to predict the ideas for the team in 2020, but it seems that Menezes wants Vasco to be aggressive on the pressing. Financial problems mean that the club isn't allowed to bring significant new signings in, even if the chairman promised to sign some new names in the upcoming weeks. On the good side, there weren't many important departures either. Promising forward Marrony left to join Atlético Mineiro, but that was it. The fans should be celebrating the fact that their hot jewel Thalles Magno will play his second season as senior and will hope the 18-years old to have his affirmation in Brazilian football. Club also managed to keep Guarin for one more year, while Bruno César looked in better physical shape than last year. Raul, Castan, Pikachu and Fernando Miguel will form the team's backbone.

Target


Vasco will aim for something similar to last season. Get out from relegation race as soon as possible and sit in a comfortable mid-table position for the second half of the season.
