Celta Vigo finished last season really well and were pushing for European qualification towards the end of the campaign. The reason they didn’t ultimately finish higher than eighth was down to their poor start under Oscar Garcia. But, when he was replaced by Argentine tactician Eduardo Coudet after nine matchdays, things improved significantly. Celta Vigo shot up the table under Coudet, moving from the relegation battle to the fight for Europe. He’ll now get to start the season in charge and he’ll also do so with an improved squad after some very impressive summer signings. Javi Galan is the pick of the new arrivals, joining Celta Vigo when the attacking left-back was also wanted by various other clubs around Europe. Midfielder Franco Cervi is another fairly big name as Celta Vigo look to add depth. Last season’s starting XI was really good, but depth was something they lacked. There is, therefore, a lot of optimism around Celta Vigo. They have a well-functioning team that is as balanced as it has been in years. Celta Vigo fans have, however, seen great off-seasons followed by poor seasons in the past. They’ll hope this isn’t another false dawn.
