Cowdenbeath suffered another tough season and were fortunate that Brechin’s decline continued to their benefit. Until the chaotic end to the season with teams playing 2 and sometimes 3 games a week, Cowdenbeath looked in real trouble until they found some form in their closing 8 fixtures (W3 D3 L2). Regular starter in midfield Taylor has departed along with another midfielder, Herd. Several other peripheral players have gone but will not affect the overall strength of the squad. However, Cowdenbeath will miss the experience of on-loan players Russell and Finnie who have returned to their parent clubs. Cowdenbeath hope they have sorted their goalkeeping problems with the signing of Dunfermline’s highly regarded Cammy Gill. Veteran striker of many clubs Liam Buchanan returns to his first after failing to get much game at Alloa in the Championship. Defender Craig Thomson has signed after a solid season at Edinburgh City and experienced midfielder Kyle Hutton has made his loan move permanent. While Cowdenbeath appear to have strengthened in some areas, their obvious flaw is the lack of a regular scorer. Pinning their hopes on 36-year-old Buchanan with only 4 goals in his last 2 seasons is a big gamble. It seems inevitable that Cowdenbeath will supplement their squad with loan signings again.

Target

A quiet season in mid-table is Cowdenbeath’s target, but another struggle seems more likely with avoiding 10th place their real aim.
