Fleetwood endured a torrid League One campaign last season, not helped by a crippling injury list, but they managed to survive by the skin of their teeth. Stephen Crainey led Town to survival last season but he has now left. In his place comes legendary Celtic midfielder Scott Brown who takes on his first managerial role. There has been a significant turnover of players during the close season with 10 senior players exiting the club. In terms of incomings so far, the Cod Army have made some astute additions. Central midfielder Vela has been an excellent performer for fellow League One side Shrewsbury over the last few seasons. Defender Rooney joins after a successful couple of years in the Scottish Premiership with St Johnstone. West Brom striker Morton has penned a permanent deal after impressing during a loan spell at Fleetwood last season. Out go midfielders Rossiter and Camps who have been go to players for Fleetwood over the last few seasons. Regular starters from the last campaign Jules and Johnson depart after their loan deals ended. Winger Lane remains at the club after his impressive breakthrough season in 21/22 as does excellent goalkeeper Cairns and reliable performers Batty, Clarke and Andrew. With a rookie manager it is difficult to know what to expect but the attributes that Brown was known for as a player; leadership, tenacity, will to win, should stand him in good stead.
