Finished 5th last season, in a very surprising positive performance from a team that was considered weak and ready to be involved in relegation race. This season, reached the final of Carioca State Championship, but was easily defeated by Flamengo. There are some hopes for success this season. Important attacking midfielder Michel Araújo left, and winger Marcos Paulo shouldn't play any longer for the club, being involved in a litigious transfer. Other than that, Flu didn't lose any important piece and there is new talent available for 2021. Samuel Xavier, Manoel, David Braz and Wellington are important defensive signings; Cazares and Abel Hernandez will add established skills in attack. They all bring experience to the side, but this team seems all about the exciting young talent coming from youth system. 17-years old Kayky is the main attraction, having signed with Manchester City for the future and tipped to be the left-footed new Neymar. Luiz Henrique didn't leave to France and is also an exciting prospect for the season. Gabriel Teixeira, Calegari and Martinelli are also very talented youngsters that should be playing frequently. There's however a major question mark raised on the goalkeeper position. Muriel passed his prime years and Marcos Filipe has been a liability more often than the fans would hope him to be. Roger Machado seems the perfect man for the job of turning this team in an entertaining attacking team.

Target

Repeating last season's 5th place would be great, but this season is all about promoting the talented youngsters into established status, even if that costs a point here and there.
