Fujieda finished in the decent 12th position last season. This despite having the embarrassment of ending the 2023 campaign with the worst defensive record in J2 – 72 goals conceded in 42 matches. Even the two relegated teams allowed fewer goals. What kept Fujieda out of trouble last year was their ability to score goals themselves – 61. Watanabe was the most impressive striker with his 13 league goals but he left the club last autumn. His main replacement Iwabuchi is no longer in the team either so it’s a concern now if Fujita will be as effective in attack this season. The fact that the only new striker signed so far is the relatively young Nakashima could be an indication that the efficiency in attack will drop in 2024. This could be a major issue if Fujieda can’t find a way to defend better. In attempt, to sort their issues at the back Brazilian defenders Wendel and Carlinhos had been added to the ranks. Both haven’t played much first-team football in recent years and it is yet to be seen how fast they can get up to speed.

Target


The goal is to stay out of trouble. Should be able to do that. Not likely to challenge for promotion though.
