In 2023 Montedio finished 5th and were part of the play-offs but they stumbled at the first hurdle. In all honesty, promotion never looked close as Montedio had the worst defensive record of the top 6 sides by a significant margin. They conceded 56 goals in 42 rounds and this was the main reason why 17 defeats were suffered. No other side that finished in the top 11 places had more than 13 losses. The impressive Tiago Alves was the fourth best goalscorer last season with his 13 league goals, but together with the other main striker Dellatore, he is no longer part of the team. This opens a major hole in attack, which Montedio are yet to address this winter. Right now Yoshiki Fujimoto is the only typical centre forward on the books. Several other players that were important in 2023 also left, so it seems Montedio are rebuilding their squad this winter. The midfield line was strengthened well but not many good new defenders have been added to the ranks and this for a team that struggled at the back could be problematic. Montedio will need far better defensive efficiency in 2024 if they are to repeat their top 6 finish. Also, further strengthening in attack is a must with no certainty right now where the goals will be coming from.
