Grimsby Town had a season to forget last year when they were nowhere near the top places in the league and rarely looked like getting back into the Football League after their relegation. Their season faded badly despite the appointment in March of Rob Scott and Paul Hurst who arrived too late to address the slump and stage a late assault for the play-offs. The bosses needed to reshape the squad in the summer and have brought in several of their former players from Bostin United. Shaun Pearson, Anthony Church ans James McKeown have all made the move and the hopes are that the team will perform better and be more consistent throughout the season. However, the Mariners lost some good players too with Alan Connell joining Swindon Town after a prolific campaign and defender Rob Atkinson choosing the advances of Fleetwood. Nevertheless, the enduring hope among the fans is that the bosses will manage to bring a renewed buzz to the place in contrast to last season when Neil Woods stayed on even after relegation and could not stir the side up for a genuine challenge. Now a strong start is absolutely vital to bring confidence into the squad and both Scott and Hurst will be aiming for that. They will hope that big striker Anthony Elding will fill the boosts of Connell while Craig Disley is a very good player at this level and will surely boost the midfield where the team was often found wanting last season. In general, Grimsby could be considered dark horses for the play-offs at best as there are too many teams that are superior to them and the Mariners are still very much a work in progress.

Target

A place in upper mid-table and everything above that will be a surprise bonus given the fierce competition.
