Irving and Simon Weaver have achieved something no-one outside of the Harrogate would have believed possible. Simon Weaver was appointed manager of the National League North side in 2009 and his wealthy father Irving took over ownership two years later in 2011. Promotion in 2018 was followed by a superb 2019-20 campaign which saw them sat in second place before the Covid-19 pandemic struck. As football returned they met Notts County in the play-off final at Wembley and claimed a deserved 3-1 win to complete a fairy tale promotion to the Football League. It is a personal triumph for Simon Weaver, who becomes the longest serving manager in the Football League. He will remain loyal to the players who pulled off such a remarkable achievement as they begin their first ever season in League 2. Ryan Fallowfield had an outstanding season at right-back whilst Captain Josh Falkingham anchored the midfield. George Thomson is the playmaker whilst Jack Muldoon provides the attacking threat. Jack Diamond’s return to parent club Sunderland is a blow with the loanee having enjoyed an outstanding spell. Jake Lawlor and Kevin Lokko have both signed permanent deals and will be looking to follow in his footsteps. The Sulphurites will have to wait to play their first home game at Wetherby Road as they tear up their artificial surface and will temporary share with Doncaster Rovers.

Target

Survival. Staying in the Football League will be as great an achievement, if not greater, than reaching it in the first place.
