Phil Wallace might just be the luckiest owner in the Football League. Having overseen a dismal campaign, Stevenage have been given a reprieve due to a 17-point deduction which led to Macclesfield Town’s relegation. Boro won just three of their 36 league matches in 2019/20 and Wallace should have taken responsibility for such a pathetic showing. He went through four managers in Dino Maamria, Mark Sampson, Graham Westley and Alex Revell. Those managers went through a ridiculous number of players and they remained bottom of the table until the premature end brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. There is no doubt Stevenage deserved to be relegated but they have been given a second chance by Macclesfield Town’s demise. Whether Wallace has learned from his mistakes remains to be seen but he continues to pontificate on football from the comfort of his boardroom. He has sung rookie boss Revell’s praises and they will start the new season with almost a new squad. He has retained the services of some exciting youngsters in the likes of Luther Wildin-James and Arthur Iontton. Danny Newton will be hoping to bounce back from an injury-ravaged season. Centre-back Luke Prosser looks an excellent addition and his experience will be crucial with more than a dozen other new signings having little Football League experience between them.

Target

Survival. With an untested manager and so many new players, making sure they avoid a relegation battle will be their primary aim.
