After a largely uninspiring 2016 campaign under the leadership of former Premier League manager, Owen Coyle, the Houston Dynamo bounced back in 2017, finishing in fourth position in the Western Conference table, and making it all the way to the Western Conference playoff final. While Wilmer Cabrera’s men would ultimately crash out on an aggregate score of 5-0 to the Seattle Sounders, the Dynamo showed that they have the potential to hold their own against some of the league’s best sides. Houston’s home form was absolutely exceptional throughout 2017, and is something that the oranges will be hoping to replicate going into the new season. Losing just one regular season home game all year, the Dynamo were most definitely at their best when in front of their own fans. A few first team regulars have departed in the off-season period, with names such as Ricardo Clark, Alex, and Erick Torres all no longer with the club. Wilmer Cabrera has however, added a few experienced MLS players, who most definitely add to the squad’s depth. Darwin Ceren arrives from the San Jose Earthquakes, and will hope to provide some added steel in the midfield. Arturo Alvarez meanwhile joins from the Chicago Fire, and will most definitely prove to be an attacking threat down the wings. Chris Seitz is another name to be brought in, with the experienced goalkeeper arriving from local rivals, FC Dallas. It will be interesting to see if these names will help Houston to build upon last year’s performance, with many Dynamo fans longing for the glory days of around a decade ago, when the club managed to win back to back MLS Cup titles.

Target

After reaching the MLS Cup Final last year, the Dynamo will hope to go one better and challenge for the title once more.
