After a poor start to the 2022 campaign, Phil Neville managed to steady the ship in middle of the season and produce a strong finish to make the play-offs, where Inter Miami ultimately fell at the first hurdle to New York City. A lot of the narrative involved Gonzalo Higuain who Neville bravely dropped mid-season due to poor form. The decorated striker returned after an injury to Leo Campana and almost single-handedly led the club to a 6th place finish. Higuain had already announced his retirement and replacing him would've been the club's biggest priority in the off-season. Josef Martinez has been drafted in from Atalanta, having had a stellar MLS career. Campana's loan deal from Wolves has been made permanent so striking options look positive. Higuain's upturn in form coincided with arrival of Alejandro Pozuelo as the Number 10 but he has since departed. Replacing his creativity will be another huge task. Nicolas Stefanelli has joined the club after shining in Sweden for AIK. Rodolfo Pizarro has also returned after his loan and could take up that role. At the back, Serhiy Kryvtsov arrives with a wealth of experience from Europe having played at the highest level in the Champions League for Shakhtar Donetsk. He along with the lesser known Franco Negri will look to bolster what was one of the leakiest defences in the Eastern Conference last season.

Target

The club co-owned by David Beckham is always going to have the spotlight shone on it and lofty ambitions, so another play-off push will be expected. The losses of Higuain and Pozuelo may prove difficult to overcome.
