Nurnberg were relegated from the Bundesliga at the first time of asking after a miserable season saw them horribly out of their depth, finishing bottom with just 19 points. The club have spent well in the summer to rebuild, Austrian Nikola Dovedan was the first big coup up front and the shrewd signing of Asger Sorensen from Salzburg will fill the void of the departed Ewerton. The purchases of youngster Robin Hack, Fabian Schleusner and Felix Lohkemper should help to rejuvenate their attack. Left-back Tim Leibold has joined Hamburger SV but Nurnberg moved quickly for a replacement in 21 year-old Handwerker. The loss of Eduard Lowen could cause a weakness in the centre of midfield without a like for like replacement, however the other transfer business they have done should give them the tools for a promotion chase. Scoring goals were a major issue last year in the top flight and manager Damir Canadi has addressed this with the signings of proven front men and against lesser opposition they should fare a lot better this season.

Target

Promotion back to the big time will be the sole aim for Nurnberg but they need to get over the hangover of last year quickly.
