After yet another relegation Stuttgart are in process of rebuilding, with last season’s Holstein Kiel manager Tim Walter the new man in charge. As it happens always after relegation Walter saw 7 regulars leaving the club, but the large amounts of money that came in from Pavard’s transfer allowed Stuttgart to reinforce well. Probably the most impressive signing made was that of Klement, who was Player of the Season in 2018/19 when leading Paderborn to promotion. Instead of going up with the Blues he decided to join Stuttgart. In him the team now has a player that pretty much guarantees 10+ goals and 10+ assists. Other interesting names that joined Stuttgart and are expected to be important figures were goalkeeper Kobel, right-back Stenzel and centre forward Kalajdzic. It remains to be seen if more regulars will leave though, with Walter also still actively looking for reinforcements as the depth is poor only a week before the start of the season. With only one typical right-back on the books and hardly any wide attacking players available those are positions in which Stuttgart need to reinforce in the coming weeks. Veterans Insua, Castro and Gomez will be the main providers of confidence and their rich experience will be relied on much more often in this division. Walter is yet to pick favourite formation, with Stuttgart currently incline to start most pre-season tests with 4-2-3-1 shape, but regularly changing it to 3-5-2 or 3-4-2-1 in second halves of matches. It seems that, until the final squad for the season ahead is known, the gaffer won’t rush with decision on the formation he will be using.

Target

Quick return to the top flight is the goal, with Stuttgart definitely expected to be amongst the frontrunners all season.
