Sandhausen had to battle hard last season to avoid the drop, with the team’s inconsistency and injuries to important players impacting the campaign in negative way. After saving the team in his 3 months in charge coach Koschinat had his first summer at the helm and as usual he had to rebuild. As many as 5 regulars from last season left the club, with the most notable departures those of goalkeeper Schuhen and the top 2 goalscorers Wooten and Schleusener. Fraisl is expected to be the new main goalie, with veteran Heerwagen brought in to serve as solid back up option. Another important arrival was that of Paurevic, who returned to the club after several years of solid displays in Russia’s top flight. He will most certainly become crucial figure in the heart of the midfield for Sandhausen, with veterans Karl and Kulovits likely to see their playing times reduced. Bouhaddouz and Engels were brought to refresh the forward line, but they can be hoping to score goals regularly only if the crucial for any success Gislason remains fit and contributes well. Sandhausen rely heavily on their home matches for wins and only if the results in front of their own fans are good survival could be achieved. Unfortunately this will also depend on what is happening off the pitch, with the club currently threatened with up to 10-point deduction due to delayed payments for license fees and bank loans. If such a penalty is implemented Sandhausen will be as good as doomed and monitoring the news coming off the pitch will be important in determining the team’s fate.

Target

Sandhausen’s only goal is survival, with the lack of finances suggesting that the team will once again struggle near the bottom pretty much all campaign.
