A disappointing season for Genk last time out saw them finish the regular season in 8th place. Bernd Storck ended last season in charge after John van den Brom was sacked in December but he has now departed. The new man in the Genk managerial hotseat is Wouter Vrancken who led Mechelen to a top eight finish last season. Genk’s playing squad remains very strong. Powerful striker Onuachu (19 league goals last season) and creative winger Ito, unplayable at times in 2021/22, remain at the club. Genk have yet to bring in any new players but their ranks are boosted by the return of forward Dessers and central defender Dewaest who both impressed during loan spells last campaign. With no significant outgoings so far, their current squad shows strength in depth all over the pitch with several exciting youngsters coming through. One challenge for Vrancken might be to keep all his players happy. Genk certainly underachieved last season, with the squad they have and with no European football to distract them this time out they should at least be looking to finish in the top four.

Target

Have the quality and depth in their squad to sustain a title challenge. Much will depend on how the new manager settles in.
